These maps show the route that Martin walked on his trip. There is no path and no trail. There are no blaze marks on trees to show this path, no piled up rocks - nothing.
Travel off of the established routes and portages - into the area shown on these maps - is hazardous. There were five essential things that Martin took each time he walked off the established routes:
He took a Satellite Telephone and had it on his person at all times.
He carried a compass at all times.
He carried a set of maps.
He carried and was an expert with a mapping GPS receiver
He carried the extensive experience he gained from many years of canoe travel.
Do not attempt to follow the routes shown on these maps unless you carry all of the above - especially the experience. You could become lost, seriously injured or die.
