Slide 10 Here's our plan. We're going to line up our map on our kitchen table so that our compass acts exactly the same way that it would if we were actually in Woodland Caribou Park.

Now it might occur to you that if you were in the park, you could point your compass at different landmarks - an island, a point of land, a channel - and take a magnetic bearing. You could then follow that bearing to get to the landmark.

We're going to do the same thing on our kitchen table. We're going to plot out our whole trip with magnetic bearings. But first we have to line up our map so that our compass acts on our map exactly the same way it would in the park.
