Slide 14 Tape the map down on your table. Our map is now oriented so that our compass will act the same way it will act when we're up in the park.

Let's do a reality check. Remember that the diagram on the map told us that our compass would point about 5 degrees east of a North - South grid line? Let's put our compass edge against a North - South grid line and see it that's what happens.

It worked! Our map is now a magnetically true scale model of Woodland Caribou Park.

If we point our compass between two landmarks on the map, it will read the same bearing it will read when we take it to the park and point it between the same two landmarks.
