Slide 19 When you're crossing those big lakes with lots of islands and channels and bays, you can follow your charted course (red lines) from point to point.

Mark out an alternate route - a route you might take on a windy day. If you like to fish when you get to the big lakes, it's a good idea to take the bearings (green lines) of some of the shore lines, just in case you get lost in all the excitement. If you're lost in the middle of Donald, for example, you might line your canoe up with

the shore and read your magnetic bearing on your compass. Compare your reading with some of the shores you've charted and you might find out where you are, or at least where you aren't!
