Slide 1 In this lesson, we're going to take a closer look at a few things on our topographic map.

First look at the Map Number. For this map it's "52 M/3".

Now look at the grid line numbers along the bottom of the map. I pointed to grid lines 57, 58, and 59 on this example map. The grid lines count from west to east - from left to right.

The grid lines along the right side of the map increment from south to north. We're going to use the map number

and grid lines to specify a spot on the map. I marked this map with a black dot inside of a red diamond. Let's put together a Universal Transverse Mercator grid location for this dot on the map.
